Peer Training

Peer training is available to any individual interested in lending support to those who will either undergo an amputation or who have recently become amputees. The aim of the training session is to clearly identify the role of the peer, in addition to offering suggestions to better prepare trainees to cope in a variety of circumstances. The training session serves to identify candidates who are ready to take on the role of peer visitor.  This program also encourages experienced peers to become trainers.

Training sessions are free of charge and may be made available in any area where there is sufficient interest.  To qualify for training, all candidates must be amputees for a minimum of one year. Participants who successfully complete the daylong training session are awarded a certificate, as well as an identification card.

Once certified, peer visitors are added to the national peer network, and are accessible to anyone interested in initiating contact. Peer visitors will respond to enquiries either by e-mail, telephone or personal visit.

If you are interested in becoming a peer visitor or would like more information about the program, call 1-866-611-AMPS (2677), or complete our online form. We will contact you with information about the next training session in your area.
