SUPPORT GROUPS
Support groups organise meetings in order to empower and encourage amputees to lead full and active lives. These informal meetings are not usually held in the presence of clinical personnel.
The positive impact of these peer meetings is well documented. Individuals who have undergone limb loss, and who feel the need for regular meetings in their area, often initiate support groups. Those who work in the rehabilitation sector also recognize their patients’ support needs and frequently organise group meetings.
The Amputee Coalition of Canada (ACC) :
- Encourages and facilitates the development of new support groups in different regions;
- Supports the visibility of existing groups, as well as website links between groups.
